Understanding Culture Shock

Class/Workshop, Community Event, Education
Global Connections will give two workshops – on June 20 and July 12 – about understanding culture shock and reverse culture shock. The target audience for these presentations are internationals with children, or those who work with them. By the end of the first workshop participants will have a better understand of the meaning, reasons, and the stages of culture shock. In addition, they will learn ways to recover, and to help a friend, neighbor, or a child suffering from culture shock. This session will also feature a guest speaker from Park Forest Middle School, who will speak about the school’s efforts to help children suffering from culture shock. By the end of the second workshop participants will have an understanding of what to expect when returning to their home culture, and factors affecting the reverse culture shock. The second part of the workshop is dedicated to the difficulties face by “third culture kids,” children who were born outside their home country and return with their parents to a place that is entirely new to them. Participants are encouraged to share their personal experiences during interactive segments. In Room 241. For details about the event, visit http://gc-cc.org.
