Zanele Muholi, artist. Zanele Muholi is an internationally celebrated portrait photographer and human rights activist based in Johannesburg. Her work focuses on the rampant violence against sexual minorities in South Africa and elsewhere, and was featured in a major solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum in 2015. Her stark, intimate images depict individuals and communities often and intentionally hidden from view. Co-sponsored by the LGBQTA Student Resource Center; African Feminist Initiative; African Studies Program; Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Penn State School of Visual Arts John M. Anderson Endowed Lecture Series; Rock Ethics Institute; Department of Art History; Woskob Family Gallery; and the Friends of the Palmer Museum of Art.
